The Simons Foundation has announced the creation of Simons Center for Data Analysis (SCDA), a research center located at the Simons Foundation in Manhattan devoted to data science.

This will further boost New York City's position as a major hub for data science, following the creation of NYU's Center for Data Science, NYU's Center for Urban Science and Progress, and Columbia's Institute for Data Science and Engineering.

The Simons Foundation has wisely chosen my dear NYU colleague+Leslie Greengard as the founding director of SCDA. Leslie was the director of the Courant Institute until 2011. Congratulations Leslie.

For all of you in machine learning, statistics, applied math who are interested in extracting knowledge from data, there will be jobs openings at SCDA (in addition to the existing faculty positions openings at the CDS).

Some of us have participated in events at the Simons Foundation in preparation of the creation of SCDA. It is very nice to see the project taking off with such a great director.
